New Mexico regulations provide that a clinical nurse or certified nurse practitioner must release medical records to patients or other practitioners upon a legal request for the record. However, medical records may not be withheld if there is an unpaid bill for treatment or services. The nurse may charge a reasonable fee for copying the medical record in the amount of $1 per page for the first 25 pages and $.10 for each page after.
