Idaho Code Ann. § 54-1769, Communication Regarding Biological Products
This will open in a new window
Requires pharmacists that dispense a biological product to notify the prescribing practitioner of the name and manufacturer of the dispensed biological within five days. Requires such notice to occur via an eHR, eRx, pharmacy benefit management system, or electronic pharmacy record if the prescriber has access to the system. Considers entering the dispensed biological into an electronic record sufficient notice. Permits pharmacists to also communicate the information by fax, phone, or other electronic means. Specifies the circumstances in which such communication is not necessary (e.g., the prescription is for a biological that does not have an FDA approved interchangeable product, the pharmacist has already communicated with the prescriber regarding the product they will dispense to the patient, etc.).
