This will open in a new window
Establishes standards for hospital maternity and newborn services. Requires hospitals to maintain obstetrical and newborn records and specifies the information that must be documented in these records (e.g., antenatal blood serology, date and time of birth, etc.). Requires hospitals to establish written policies and procedures and specifies the items that these policies must address (e.g., infection control, admission of high risk pregnancies, etc.). Requires hospitals to have the ability to perform C-sections, but grants the licensing agency authority to waive this requirement for hospitals that demonstrate to the authority that they meet certain criteria regarding informed consent and emergency transport to a C-section capable facility.
