Electronic Prescription Transmission
Establishes requirements for electronic prescription transmissions to be deemed valid (e.g., they include the transmitters phone number, include the practitioner’s unique digital signature, etc.). Requires electronic prescriptions for controlled substances to comply with federal regulations. Requires providers and pharmacies to prevent unauthorized access to the equipment used to send and receive electronic prescriptions. Requires hardcopy prescriptions that include an electronic signature to be printed on paper that prohibits alternation or copying when such hardcopies are given to patients.
