Health Information Technology in New Hampshire
New Hampshire requires health care facilities that use electronic health records to develop policies to protect patients’ privacy, prevent loss of data or tampering of information, safeguard confidentiality of information. 1
Health insurers are required to cover telemedicine, which means the delivery of health care services through electronic technology.2
New Hampshire’s health information organization corporation is established to provide health information exchange services.3 The health information organization corporation must facilitate the private and secure electronic exchange of health information.4
The pharmacy board must design and establish an electronic system to facilitate the confidential sharing of information relating to the prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances by health care providers and pharmacists.5 A pharmacist must electronically report to the controlled drug prescription health and safety program information regarding controlled substance prescriptions.6 Information contained in the controlled drug prescription health and safety program is confidential and privileged and may only be disclosed to other health care professionals or others as permitted by law.7
