Rights of voluntarily committed persons
Persons that voluntarily commit themselves to an institution for mental illness evaluation and treatment must have, at minimum, the same rights provided to involuntarily committed persons. Consequently, voluntarily committed persons must have the right to discuss their treatment plan and decisions with their provider unless doing so is dangerous to the committed person or others.
