The commissioner is required to investigate the causes, occurrences, treatments of cancer, and to cooperate with local health authorities to develop suitable facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in addition to developing a cancer registry providing cancer statistics to the public. In order to aid him in his efforts, physicians and other health care providers are required to report any findings of cancer to the department of health in the format prescribed by the department.
