Report Required of Physician
Requires licensed physicians and other health care providers to report communicable diseases in accordance with Department of Health rules. Requires the State Health Officer to collect communicable disease information and authorizes the Officer to provide this information—including names of persons with communicable diseases—to county health officers for disease control purposes. Authorizes the State Health Officer to review medical records—without patient authorization— as a means of confirming disease diagnoses or investigating outbreaks. Requires the Officer to maintain the confidentiality of information from these records and limits its use to controlling, investigating, and preventing communicable diseases. Classifies violations of this section as a misdemeanor subject to a maximum $1,000 fine and/or six months imprisonment.
