Patient profile record system
Requires pharmacies to maintain a patient profile records system and to retain patient records for at least five years from the last entry date. Specifies the information that must be recorded (e.g., patient name, prescriber’s name, name of drug dispensed, etc.). Requires pharmacists to record drug allergies and chronic conditions that relate to drug utilization. Requires pharmacists, upon receiving a prescription, to identify potential adverse drug interactions or reactions by querying the patient profile system. If an adverse interaction or reaction exists, pharmacists must take steps to reduce harm.
