Electronic transmission of prescriptions
Permits a practitioner to electronically transmit a prescription to a pharmacy. Requires the prescribing practitioner or their authorized agent to submit the prescription and requires the practitioner to provide voice verification upon a pharmacist’s request. Prohibits pharmacists from supplying or leasing facsimile or computer technology to a prescribing provider or facility. Permits the use of third party intermediaries to facilitate electronic prescription transmission so long as there are procedures to safeguard patient confidentiality and preserve the prescriber’s intent.
