Participation in the health information exchange by executive branch state agencies and institutions of higher education
Requires executive branch state agencies and higher education institutions that utilize health information technology, to make sure their systems comply with the minimum standards for the state’s health information exchange (“HIE”) by January 1, 2015. Requires agencies or institutions to provide patient-specific data to the HIE unless otherwise specified by law. Clarifies that an agency or institution’s participation in the exchange does not impact the use, disclosure, or content of patient-specific data that is located in other parts of the exchange.
