Requires hospitals to create an organizational plan for their nursing department that identifies the authority, responsibility, and duties of the different types of nursing personnel. Requires a licensed registered nurse to serve as the director of this department. Requires nurses to maintain records and specifies the content of these records (e.g., vital signs, medication administration, adverse reactions, etc.). Requires nurses to develop a patient care plan and specifies the information that must be included in these plans (e.g., ordered medical treatments, patient’s socio-psychological needs, patient goals, etc.). Requires the department to establish written policies and procedures for nursing services and particular policies and procedures that address, reporting patient incident/accidents and reporting medication errors.
