This will open in a new window
Establishes Behavioral Care Unit rates, criteria for participation in a BCU, staffing and training requirements, and care planning standards. Requires facilities to create individualized care plans and to review and document progress every 30 days. Permits a facility to discharge a participant upon determining that the participant has improved enough to function in a less restrictive environment, is not benefiting from the BCU’s programming, is a danger to themselves or others and cannot be managed by the BCU staff, or has a medical issue that requires a higher level of care. Requires the facility to document that the participant has met one of those discharge criteria. Requires providers to notify the Department of Health and Welfare if they decide to leave the BCU program.
