Drug Substitution Procedures
Permits pharmacists to dispense a generic drug in place of a prescribed brand name unless the prescribing practitioner clearly prohibits the substitution. Requires pharmacists to document the substitution within five days in an electronic records system that is accessible to the prescribing practitioner. Requires pharmacists to communicate the substitution to the prescribing practitioner within five days if they do not have access to an electronic system.
