State health care authority — Director — Cost control and delivery strategies — Health information technology — Managed competition — Rules
The governor will appoint a director of the Washington State Health Care Authority to carry out the authority’s statutory duties. These duties include administering various health plans and benefits, implementing joint purchasing strategies, and implementing state initiatives. In particular, the director must create strategies to facilitate the use of health information technology by hospitals and integrated delivery systems. These entities should adopt such technology, including electronic medical records, for the purpose of aiding diagnosis and treatment, reducing unnecessary utilization of care, increasing consumer access to information, and improving outcomes.
