“Voluntary participation in health information organizations”
Individuals may exercise their right to opt out of participating in a health information organization (HIO) by providing notice of their decision to the HIO. An HIO’s notice of health information practies will specify the procedure for providing this opt out notice. Individuals may opt out of a particular provider sharing their information with an HIO by giving the provider notice of their decision to opt out. A provider that receives such notice must then notify the HIO. An organization that employs a provider who is subject to an opt out may decide to apply the opt out to all other providers employed by the organization. Individuals may reverse their opt out decision at any time.
