The functions of the Tennessee Office of Minority Health are as follows:
- To help the Commissioner of Health assess the health needs of the minority populations within the state;
- To recommend to the Commissioner programs that are sensitive and relevant to the cultural, linguistic, and ethnic needs of the minority population;
- To provide consultation, technical assistance, and reference materials on minority health issues to providers, organizations, and other agencies;
- To promote awareness of minority health issues and aid in addressing these issues;
- To disseminate information on available minority health services;
- To provide opportunities where minorities given their input on departmental policies;
- To coordinate with other agencies providing services to minority populations;
- To develop local coalitions that focus on community minority health programs;
- To seek funding from various entities to carry out the functions of the Office of Minority Health.
