Responsibilities of Facilities
Requires psychiatric medical institutions for children to maintain medical records. Specifies the content of these records (e.g., assessment and diagnosis data, identifying information, treatment plan, progress notes, and discharge planning). Requires the facility to have a professional review organization determine that a patient needs care in a psychiatric medical institution if the patient is Medicaid eligible or will apply for Medicaid. Requires such determinations to occur upon entering the facility, entering the facility after a minimum 30 day absence, or returning to the facility following a minimum of 10 days in acute hospital care. Requires the treatment plan to utilize an interdisciplinary team that includes either a psychiatrist or psychologist, and either a social worker, registered nurse, occupational therapist, or psychologist.
