A provider or a medical record company that receives a request for a patient’s medical record must adhere to the following charges for producing the record:
- $1 per page for the first 10 pages
- $0.50 per page for pages 11 through 50
- $0.25 per page for pages 51 to the end of the record.
Additionally, the provider may collect a fee not to exceed $20 for the cost of labor to produce the record. If the provider collects a labor fee, then the provider may not charge a fee for making and providing copies of the first 10 pages. The provider may charge for the additional actual costs of mailing the medical record, and may charge an additional $10 if the request is for copies to be provided within 2 working days.
Under no circumstances may the provider collect a charge of more than $20 for certifying a patient’s medical record.
