Older adult daily living centers must establish written policies and procedures on the recording, reporting and management of unusual incidents which occur at the center; procedures for reporting such incidents must be in compliance with confidentiality laws. The following reports must be made:

Unusual incidents relating to a client must be immediately reported to the following:
- The responsible party;
- The client’s family, if appropriate; and
- The residential services provider, if applicable.

Cases of abuse or suspected abuse, incidents involving a fire department, or circumstances requiring police action must be orally reported by the center operator within 24 hours of the incident to the following:
- The department;
- If the services provided to the client are being publicly funding, to the funding agency; and
- If the client has mental illness or retardation, to the county’s mental health and/or retardation program.
Copies of unusual incident reports must be kept in the client’s record.
