Reporting cases of lead poisoning - 28 Pa. Code § 27.34

Reporting requirements for clinical laboratories relating to lead poisoning are as follows:

  • All blood lead results on both venous and capillary specimens for persons under 16 years of age must be reported to the division of maternal and child health’s childhood lead poisoning prevention program in the department of health’s bureau of family health;
  • Elevated blood lead levels in a person 16 years of age or older must be reported to the division of environmental health epidemiology in the department of health’s bureau of epidemiology;
  • If the laboratory conducts blood lead tests of 100 or more specimens per month, it must submit the results electronically; and
  • If the laboratory conducts blood lead tests of less than 100 specimens per month, it must submit the results electronically or by hard copy.

Health care practitioners and health care facilities must report all cases of lead poisoning for persons under 16 years of age and pregnant woman to the child and adult health services division’s lead poisoning prevention program in the department of health’s bureau of family health.
