The Department of Public Health must create a method for “collecting and analyzing standardized data concerning the linkage between nurse staffing levels and the quality of acute care, long-term care and home care, including patient outcomes.” The department must develop the data collection method in collaboration with nurses and hospitals and must collect data from other state agencies. The department must use the data to study the relationship between quality of care and nurse staffing patterns.
