Minimum standards of nursing practice for registered nurses.
Establishes standards for practice by registered nurses that address items such as making assessments of patient’s health status, planning nursing care, delegating activities to unlicensed personnel, supervising activities and nursing tasks, and executing a regimen as directed by a physician. Grants nurses discretion to not carry out a physician’s directions when justified by their professional judgment. Requires nurses to provide physicians notice of their decision not to carry out the regimen, explain their reasons for not doing so, and justify the decision in the patient’s medical record.
