Mich. Comp. Laws Ann. § 333.5123 - Initial examination of pregnant woman or woman recently delivering infant; test specimens required; exceptions; record; availability of test results and records

All physicians providing medical treatment to a pregnant woman must send test specimens to a clinical laboratory to test for venereal disease, HIV, and hepatitis B. A physician, however, does not need to submit such tests to a clinical laboratory if, in their professional opinion, the tests are medically inadvisable or the woman does not consent. For tests that are conducted, the physician must maintain a record of the results of the test. Such records are not public records, but must be provided to the local health department upon request.
