Michigan prohibits physical, mental, and emotional abuse, mistreatment, and neglect of nursing home patients by any employee, administrator, or licensee. All employees, nursing home administrators, nursing directors, physicians, and other licensed health care personnel must report violations to the appropriate authority. This authority is the nursing home administrator or nursing director if the reporter is an employee and is the department of public health for all other obligated individuals. The department of public health will launch an investigation upon receiving a report of abuse. Harassing or retaliating against an individual that reports abuse is prohibited.
