The statute lists numerous birth defects that must be reported to the Department. All birth defect diagnoses of children from birth to 2 years old must be reported by hospitals. The administrators of hospitals must make such reports for diagnoses that occur in facility-operated inpatient or outpatient settings. Directors of clinical laboratories are also responsible for reporting birth defects. The reporting requirements also extend to any local public health official that treats children with birth defects. Such reports must be made within 30 days of diagnosis.
