HTLV-III Test; confidentiality; informed consent
No health care facility or physician is allowed to test an individual for HTLV-III antibody without first getting the person’s written informed consent. The health care facility or physician is also not permitted to disclose the results of the test to anyone but the individual without his or her written informed consent, and may not identify the subject of the test without the test subject’s written informed consent. Additionally, the HTLV-III test cannot be required as a condition of employment by an employer.
