“Grounds for disciplinary action; action by the board under the Optometry Practice Act”
Optometrists may be denied a license or face disciplinary sanctions for a variety of grounds including:
- Making or filing a false report or failing to file a report required by state or federal law;
- Fraud, negligence, incompetency, or misconduct in the practice of optometry;
- Fraudulently submitting a claim to a health insurer for services which were not provided to a patient;
- Failing to keep written optometric records about patients;
- Gross malpractice;
- Being unable to practice optometry because of illness or substance use; and
- Being disciplining by a regulatory agency in another state.
