“Local and state health planning under the public health law”

Local health councils are public or private nonprofit agencies serving local counties. They have many responsibilities including:

  • Developing a district area health plan that permits each health council to develop strategies and set priorities for implementation based on its unique local health needs;
  • Advise the Agency for  Health Care Administration on health care issues and resource allocations; and
  • Collect data and conduct studies related to health care needs of the district.
