Examination and Treatment of Infected Persons

Identifies the actions that a health officer may take upon receiving notice or a report of an STD case within their jurisdiction (e.g., provide the individual with an examination, require the individual to receive treatment, etc.). Requires a health officer to identify persons with whom the infected individual may have significantly exposed to a dangerous STD and make a reasonable effort to notify this person of their possible exposure. Defines significant exposure as including sexual contact, a needle stick, and an EMS provider’s contact with blood or body fluids. Authorizes a health care provider to order STD testing on a patient’s specimen if a health care worker was exposed to the patient’s blood or body fluids or to request the patient submit a specimen for testing if one is not available. Permits a county health officer to seek a court order for testing if such patient refuses to undergo testing. Classifies court ordered test results as confidential.
