Establishment of a Voluntary and Collaborative Reporting System by the Patient Safety Center
Article 29-D of the New York Public Health Law created the Patient Safety Center with the purpose of “maximiz[ing] patient safety, reduc[ing] medical errors and improv[ing] the quality of health care.” N.Y. Pub. Health Law § 2998. This particular section of the law requires that the Patient Safety Center collaborate with health care providers to create a “voluntary and collaborative reporting system” in order to collect health information relevant to reducing medical errors and improving the safety and quality of care.
