Covered home health agency services
New Jersey Medicaid/ NJ FamilyCare will cover home health services provided or arranged by approved home health agencies. Covered services include those provided to a beneficiary in their place of residence (e.g. private home, residential care facility) by a public health nurse, registered professional nurse, licensed practical nurse, home health aide, physical therapist, speech pathologist, occupational therapist, social worker, nutritionist, or personal care assistant. If the beneficiary resides in a residential care facility, New Jersey Medicaid/ NJ FamilyCare will not cover services from a home health aid or personal care assistant. New Jersey Medicaid/NJ FamilyCare does cover home health services provided to beneficiaries that reside in a hospital or nursing facility.
Home health agencies must provide “comprehensive nursing services” that includes, among other items, conducting assessments of the beneficiary’s care needs, establishing a plan of care, coordinating health care services, and maintaining records and progress notes.
