Confidentiality during utilization reviews, A.R.S. § 20-2509

“Confidentiality”
Utilization review agents must establish procedures for maintaining the confidentiality of patient information accessed when performing utilization reviews. These procedures must limit the use of patient information to purposes associated utilization review, discharge planning, quality assurance, and catastrophic case management. The procedures must ensure that patient information remains confidential and is only disclosed with a patient’s written consent. Such agents must also comply with all state and federal laws regarding the confidentiality medical records and patient information. Utilization review agents must file their procedures with the Director of Insurance.
