Confidential Information

Specifies the circumstances in which pharmacies may release confidential information (e.g., with a patient’s consent, pursuant to a court order, to the patient’s health care provider, etc.). Prohibits the disclosure of confidential information otherwise, but provides exceptions to this prohibition for prescription transfers, drug therapy disclosures to practitioners, claims processing disclosures, and providing patients with a non-fillable copy of their prescription. Requires pharmacies to destroy material that contains confidential information in a way that safeguards confidentiality.
