Managed care organizations must maintain medical records that are protected from loss, damage and unauthorized use. Medical records must be preserved for 5 years after the last date of entry or, in the case of minor patients, 5 years past the minor’s 18th birthday. Managed care organizations must annually report to the Insurance Department specific information including a report of all grievances.
