The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and the American Hospital Association has put out a data brief outlining health information exchange among non-federal acute care hospitals in the U.S. from 2008-2013. The survey reveals a significant increase in health information exchange activities from 2008 to 2013. 62% of non-federal acute care hospitals electronically exchanged laboratory results, radiology reports, clinical care summaries, and medication lists with outside providers. A majority of hospitals also electronically exchanged health information with ambulatory providers outside of their organizations. The brief also notes that there are state variations in health informatione exchange rates.
