The Commonwealth Fund's Commission on a High Performance Health System has provided several recommendations for stabilizing the increasing cost of health care while enhancing the quality of care delivered within the health care system. Among the proposed policies, the Commission recommends policies that enhance information on clinical outcomes and patient experiences to better inform consumers on provider choice. This recommendation also includes an acceleration of the meaningful use program to ensure that health information technology can assess and compare long term clinical outcomes based on treatment choice through the use of patient registries.
