On April 11, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched the official website for the National Physician Payment Transparency Program, called Open Payments. The program was created pursuant to Section 6002 of the Affordable Care Act, and is commonly referred to as the Sunshine Act. The Open Payments website will be the public source for data collected on payments made to physicians by drug and device manufacturers, and will also include recommendations and tips to participating physicians and manufacturers. The website will begin posting data by September 2014.
