Medical Peer Review in Vermont
A “peer review committee” includes:1
- The Vermont professional standards review organization;
- The Vermont Program for Quality in Health Care Inc.;
- A peer review committee established by a health maintenance organization; or
- A committee of a state or local professional association or a hospital or other health care provider which is formed to evaluate and improve the quality of health care.
A peer review committee’s records are confidential and privileged.2 Any person assisting a peer review committee is not liable for peer review activities.3
Vermont law requires midwives to undergo a peer review process after an unsatisfactory patient outcomes occurs.4
