This law requires that if any nurse, parent or other persons in charge notice that an infant not being attended by a physician/nurse-midwife has inflamed/swollen eyes, s/he must report the facts in writing to the local health officer within 6 hours. The local health officer is then required to use health department funds to procure a physician to treat the infant, and any person who violates this law may be fined up to $1,000.
