Violations — Penalties — Disclosure exemption for health care providers
Dispensers that fail to report or knowingly report incorrect prescription monitoring information to the department of health may be subject to professional discipline.
Persons that have access to prescription monitoring information and either improperly disclose the information or improperly use the information may be subject to a civil penalty.
Physicians or pharmacists that have access to their patient’s prescription monitoring information may discuss the information with other health care providers for the purpose of providing safe and coordinated care. Such discussions must occur in accordance with both Washington and federal health care information privacy laws.
