“Reports to commissioner of health under the health law”
A health care provider or school health official must report cases of communicable diseases, including HIV, to the Department of Health. Information regarding patients infected with communicable diseases is confidential and may not be disclosed unless the patient consents in writing to the disclosure or for research purposes. Any person who improperly discloses confidential information may be fined between $1,000 and $10,000, reasonable costs and attorney’s fees, and other appropriate relief.
