Medical records maintained by any health care provider as defined in § 32.1-127.1:03 are the property of the health care provider or the provider’s employer. Health care providers shall release copies of medical records only pursuant to § 32.1-127.1:03 or § 8.01-413 and if the request is made for purposes of litigation, or as otherwise provided by state or federal law and is in compliance with said laws.
