General Health Care Facility Rules Inspection and Enforcement
The Utah Department of Health may discipline licensed hospitals for violations of Utah laws and regulations. Violations are broken down into three classes. Class I violations pertain to statutory or regulatory violations that place hospital patients in imminent danger or create a public health hazard. Class II violations pertain to statutory or regulatory violations that have “a direct or immediate relationship to the health, safety, or security of patients…” Class III violations occur when an entity establishes or operates a hospital without a valid license. Hospitals charged with a violation must establish a “Plan of Correction.” Failure to comply with the Plan of Correction may result in sanctions such as probation or license revocation.
