Tests required for newborn infants-N.M. Stat. Ann. § 24-1-6
This will open in a new window
The Department must create regulations mandating newborn screening tests for congenital diseases for those hospitals or other health institutions that perform childbirths. A parent, however, after being information of the reasons for the tests, may request in writing to abstain from the screening tests. The statute lists the mandatory minimum screening tests that must be included in the Department’s regulations. The Department must also consider those screening tests recommended by the New Mexico Pediatric Society of the American Academy of Pediatrics. To support the screening tests, the Department must also maintain, or may contract with another entity to maintain, laboratory services.
