All patients in ambulatory surgical centers have the following minimum rights:
- To refuse treatment and be informed of the consequences of that decision;
- To refuse experimental treatment or drugs;
- To give written informed consent to participation in research;
- To have records kept confidential;
- To give written consent to release of records unless release is otherwise permitted or authorized by law;
- To be involved in decision making pertaining to one’s own care;
- To self-determination, including the right to make choices regarding life-sustaining treatment.
