This will open in a new window
Non-identifying information contained in the Tennessee Cancer Registry may be released for the following purposes:
- In collaboration with the National Program of Cancer Registries, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Cancer Institute and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries to provide cancer incidence statistics and participate in cancer studies;
- To the Tennessee department of health in investigating cancer-related issues and in evaluating programs; and
- In aggregate form in yearly public reports.
Identifying information may be released to qualified persons for the purposes of cancer prevention, control, and research if the request for such information follows established procedure and receives prior approval from the department of health. Identifying information that is collected solely by the registry for its own special studies will not be released. The commissioner of the department of health or his authorized representative may sign agreements with other states for acquiring cancer data concerning Tennessee residents and providing these states with data relating to their residents. Each state must agree to keep all patient data confidential and privileged.
