The following persons may access patient information maintained in the controlled substance database:
- The prescriber issuing the patient a controlled substance;
- The dispenser dispensing a controlled substance;
- Anyone who has the patient’s written permission;
- A district attorney who obtains an order from a court ordering the release of information in the database; or
- The manager of any investigations or prosecution unit of a governing body that licenses practitioners who is otherwise authorized to access the database may release information to health-related boards, committees, the department of commerce and insurance, the department of health and representatives of health-related professional recovery programs.
