Tenn. Code Ann. § 68-1-1903 - Statewide Stroke Database and Report Requirements

The East Tennessee State University College of Public Health and the Tennessee stroke systems task force maintain a statewide stroke database that compiles information and statistics on stroke care involving prevalence, mortality, and performance metrics.  The College of Public Health will make aggregate data available to the public health community via an annual report.  Hospitals are encouraged to annually report the following information to the College of Public Health:

1. Number of patients evaluated;
2. Number of patients treated with acute interventional therapy;
3. Amount of time from patient presentation to delivery of acute interventional therapy;
4. Patient length of stay;
5. Patient’s functional outcome;
6. Patient morbidity;
7. Number of DVT prophylaxes given;
8. Number of patients discharged on antiplatelet and/or antithrombotics;
9. Number of patients with atrial fibriliation receiving anticoagulation therapy;
10. Number of tPA administered;
11. Number of times antithrombotics were administered within 48 hours of hospitalization;
12. Number of lipid profiles ordered during hospitalization;
13. Number of screens for dysphagia performed;
14. Number of strokes by type;
15. Number of times stroke education was provided;
16. Number of times smoking cessation was provided or discussed;
17. Number of patients assessed for rehabilitation and whether a plan for rehabilitation was considered;
18. Number of EMS stroke patients transported to the hospital;
19. Number of EMS stroke patients admitted to the hospital;
20. Number of patients discharged on cholesterol reducing medications.

No disclosure may be made that would violate HIPAA.  The College of Public Health may not disclose any hospital-specific information reported to it.
