Health care providers must provide infertility patients “with timely, relevant and appropriate information sufficient to allow that person to make an informed and voluntary choice regarding the disposition of any embryos or embryonic stem cells remaining following an infertility treatment.” Providers must give infertility patients the option of donating, storing, or disposing unused embryos or embryonic stem cells. Persons must provide written consent in order to donate embryos, embryonic stem cells, eggs, or sperm for stem cell research; compensation for such donations is prohibited.
